1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.
8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.
9 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.
10 And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.
11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.
12 And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
13 And the evening and the morning were the third day.
14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:
15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,
18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.
19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.
21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
22 And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.
23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.
25 And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.
31 AND GOD SAW EVERY THING THAT HE HAD MADE, AND,BEHOLD, IT WAS VERY GOOD. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
I'd like you to read through that chapter very carefully, and as you do I want you to imagine each individual thing that God creates. Think of everything from the vast universe, to the tiny caterpillars that change into beautiful butterflies. Scientists claim that it all happened by chance. I promise you that scientifically and based on probability, the chances of God creating it all is far more likely than all of this just happening on its own. That's a bit of a side note though. My point is that when you look around at nature... it's beautiful... it's perfect. I mean, can any of us create anything anywhere near as magnificent? The balances in nature, just the way things work... It's simply amazing.
The topic this week is simple. God does not make mistakes. As you read through that first chapter of the Bible, guess what else is on the list of creations... MAN. Yep, us lowly humans. God created us. Many of us face trials... many of us get depressed... many of us feel quite worthless from time to time. There are many stories in the bible where God used such people. And no matter how worthless any of us might feel at times, God did create us and He didn't make a mistake when He did. That's right. YOU are NOT a mistake. Look at verse 31. I put the text in capitals to emphasize... When God saw everything that He had made... which included man... He noted that it was VERY GOOD.
I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
The writer of that verse knew just how special we are. Think of our bodies and how complicated they are. How different parts of the body have all these functions, and how many of them work together. It really is amazing. God's work is beautiful.
Sure, we're not perfect. We live in a fallen world, and many of us have imperfect bodies. But, always remember just how much effort God put into creating you. You have a real purpose, even if you don't see it right now.
5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
6 Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.
Verse 5 was spoken to one person, but it applies to all of us. God knew us even before we were formed in our mother's womb. Think about that. Before we were anything at all, God knew us. And the next part of the verse, God ordained him to be a prophet unto the nations, that is before he was even born. Wow. So basically, before we were born, God had great plans for us. And you know, He still does. Those plans are out there. They're set in place somewhere, possibly just waiting for you to reach out and find them... maybe even just waiting for you to accept them. Plain and simple, God had plans for YOU before you were born. He didn't just come up with the plans recently... He had something in mind for you LONG ago. Still think you're a mistake? Still not sure you have a purpose? Maybe you're not good enough?
Look at verse 6 there. I believe this was Jeremiah speaking here... He replied to God saying that he could not speak. God had this purpose for him and he was telling God that he just wasn't good enough to live up to such a task. Ever feel that way? Even the best of them in the bible have. But the truth is, in our weakness God is strong. Forget about all that is wrong in your life. Forget about things you can't do. God has a purpose for you and by now you really should know it. You might not always feel it or accept it, but God's word promises us this. He does have a purpose for your life. So, stop thinking about why you can't do this or that. Seek God and His will. Trust Him... and He will direct your paths. And all that stuff that comes up along the way that seems SO tough... Give it to Him. He will help you through it all. Look at all the trials various bible characters faced. Many of whom thought nothing of themselves... God still did great things through them, and He can do great things through you as well. Never forget that.
Father God, I thank you for this day. I thank you for creating me. Lord I pray that I may never forget how much you care for me, and how you have big plans for me. Lord I pray that I will seek to do you will, and that you would put me in places where I can serve you in ways you want me to. Lord I pray that we can learn to trust you and your will. I pray that you would take away our fears. I pray that you would give us strength to stand up and deny the lies which satan speaks to us. thank you Lord for caring about me and promising you would be with me always. Thank you for making me who I am and all that I will be.
